Last Friday

Sunday

The wetland area design comes from LID Rain Garden Design Templates (see Steph’s Blog). finding the following template can be used in any full sun or part shade coastal plain..

from desk-crit:
..rethinking the design of the area of relaxation, no more Louisiana state shape.
component: earthwork, levee form, lawn, planting(grass, higher grass, higher than higher grass, and tree)…

..in wetland area, planting to be organized as the template, at least looks like.
component: plant scheme, template….

..to refine parking area, adding handicap space and more room for cars to go through.
component: handicap space…..

detail….

April 17, 2008

everything in design need to be reasonable. “why path here”…”why parking there”….there might be different answers. but all the answers need to make sense…

so when coming to details, i also wonder how to make detail work reasonable. “where benches should be”, “why pavement looks like this”…………That properly will be better if i have reasons for all those details. but time is limited. something more important has to be put on the priority.

below is the plan and section up to now…

circulation around the site makes plaza connected to the neighborhood…
wetland area in the right corner serves as rainwater container and purification…
the direction of pavement comes from the columns underpass…
different pavements define spaces for programs like temporary market, social area, relaxation…but now trying to make these more reasonable….

Core Sample Garden — Vertical Planting system — 03

April 15, 2008

here is another type of “vertical plant”. textures of vegetation are collected from the site and organized within a transparent grid, which makes those textures stand upright. a single grid looks like a transparent column.

Patrick Blanc — Vertical planting systems — 02

Patrick Blanc is a French botanist. The most impressive is that his vertical gardens of low light foliage plants thrive without soil. This vertical systems can be implemented anywhere: indoors or out and in any climatic environment.

The three-part system consists of a PVC layer, felt, and metal frame, providing a soil-free self-supporting system. There is where plant grows. Plant selection is mainly set according to the prevailing climatic conditions.

Four required elements: Water and many minerals dissolved in it are are essential, light and carbon dioxide to conduct photosynthesis. Light can be artificial light, not necessarily sunlight. So columns underpass are definitely possible.

Moreover, this vertical gardens do not damage structures because water is regularly given to plants. Plants roots are then only spreading on the surface, leaving the inner wall unaffected.

Here are some amazing photos

G-sky Green Wall — Vertial planting systems — 01

April 10, 2008

“G – Sky Green Wall Panels are a patented modular planting system for 90° angled wall. They are suitable for interior and exterior wall applications and can thrive in a variety of environmental conditions. The 1×1ft panels can be arranged as needed to create a living cladding for a wall.”

Each panel contains agrowing medium of natural peat block. Plant can grow within the panels. The panels are about 3 in deep and are mounted on a stainless steel or aluminium frame that is anchored into a concrete wall of other adequate structure.

The cost of this kind of green wall should include panels and the specific G – Sky irrigation system. However, the estimated maintenance is low.

focusing on four factors and exploring how these factors influence underpass incidental vegetation. from the review, some positive suggestions are listed below:
- diagrams showing relationship among four factors;
- to indicate photo location at site plan;
- some rendering suggestions;
